Baby shower and first birthday tableware

Shower tables are small, short and photographed. The collections here are built around one character or motif and run across the whole table, which is why they are worth buying as a set rather than assembling from separate ranges.

What a shower table needs

A shower runs two to three hours and food is usually finger-sized, so the dessert plate does most of the work and the dinner plate often is not needed at all. Beverage napkins are the item that disappears — they are used at the drinks table, under cupcakes and by the gift table.

Buy the plates and napkins from the same collection and let the table cover be plain. A patterned cover under patterned plates reads as noise in photographs, and the cover is the cheapest item to substitute.

Buying for a first birthday

The first-birthday goods sit in the same section and use the same soft palette, on the reasonable assumption that the guests are mostly the adults from the shower a year earlier. A smash-cake table needs its own cover and its own small plates, so count that table separately.

How much to buy

For twenty guests: one pack of dessert plates, two packs of beverage napkins, one pack of cups, one cover per table. Add a second pack of napkins if there is a drinks station away from the food.

Questions about baby shower and first birthday

How many people does one pack cover?

Plates come in packs of 24 and napkins in packs of 48, which is roughly one plate and two napkins each for a twenty-guest shower. That is the ratio the packs are sized to.

Do the collections include decorations?

The tableware is the core of each collection. Hanging decorations and centrepieces come and go with stock and are not made for every pattern, so plan the table first and treat decorations as a bonus.

Is there anything gender-neutral?

Most of what is in stock now is: the animal and woodland motifs are used across the section precisely because they suit a shower where the announcement has not been made.
